Laser scanning and BIM modelling of oil and gas platforms

Brownfield engineering, retrofit and expansion work on oil and gas facilities depends on knowing the facility as it actually stands, often where drawings are out of date and operations cannot be interrupted.

BIM model of an offshore oil and gas platform built from laser scan data

Live facilities captured · BIM typically at LOD 400 to 500

The approach

Dervoss captures platforms, plants, pipe racks, equipment areas and access routes with high-density laser scanning, then develops BIM models from the point cloud, typically at LOD 400 to 500 as the engineering scope requires.

The outcome

The models are used for engineering design, clash detection and constructability planning, so structural, piping and MEP changes can be coordinated with less rework and less disruption to operations.
